San Francisco based Phil Perkins' masterpiece "Hall of Flowers" is an epic sound collage kaleidoscopic mandala sample based 21 minute piece that predates early Orb/KLF massive "Chill Out" sound excursions. Perkins says, "I was interested in making a long, sonically complex work for radio based on a single "cell" the effect to be like moving through the eponymous "hall": a collection of similar objects in reverberant space with a crowd of people in attendance. The piece was specifically composed for radio broadcast, in that it was designed so that a listener could tune in at any point, listen for any length of time and get the gist of what was happening; while still making the full length an interesting and enjoyable experience.
